A MAN flouted an unpaid work order for nearly FOUR YEARS following a conviction for assaulting his partner.
Craig Wright 'stuck his head in the sand' over the 120-hour directive and ignored it after quitting Inverclyde for England.
He was 24 when he attacked his then 53-year-old boyfriend Edward McPhee to injury with an ashtray and mobile phone during a row over a trip to the bingo.
Wright lashed out by hurling the items across a room at their Port Glasgow flat in February 2017, as the now former couple quarrelled over money.
A trial at Greenock Sheriff Court heard how the ashtray struck Mr McPhee on the wrist before smashing into pieces against a wall and the phone hit him on the head causing a cut.
Wright was finally arrested at his home in the north east of England last week and brought back to the court.
He had completed just 25 hours of the community payback order.
His lawyer, Aidan Gallagher, said: "Not having complied to begin with, he moved to England two-and-a-half years ago and stuck his head in the sand and hoped that it would go away.
"He has had no contact with the complainer in the case since he moved away from Inverclyde."
At the trial in March 2017, victim Mr McPhee said that Wright — who has a previous conviction for a domestic abuse offence against him — wanted to travel to the Gala bingo hall in Clydebank but didn't have money.
Mr McPhee, of the Port's Rowan Court, said: "He asked me for money and I said 'no'. He wasn't very happy."
He added: "The relationship is over.
"I can't afford his lifestyle."
Sheriff Thomas Ward revoked the work order and fined Wright, now of Houghton le Spring, Sunderland, £250 with 28 days to pay.
Failure to pay the fine will result in an automatic period of seven days imprisonment.
