THERE is cause for optimism as vaccines roll out through 2021, hopefully bringing a return to something like a normal life. One Inverclyde sporting institution is celebrating too, as this year they move into their 125th anniversary. Gourock Golf Club proved popular with many as a walking area during spring/summer lockdown and resulted in a surge in membership numbers once things eased. Here we look back to five of the many pictures taken at the club over the years as we at the Telegraph wish them every success for the future. This picture shows a gathering of junior players who put out a message encouraging other young people to come to the club and join in on the fun. The pic was taken on the practice green of Gourock Golf Club in 2005.

IN the clubhouse, Gourock golfers enjoy a post-play refreshment against stunning views of the Clyde. It must be said that all of Inverclyde's golf courses enjoy outstanding scenery that must surely serve as a distraction from competitive play!

OUT on the course the vistas just get better, as this picture taken at Gourock Golf Club on a warm May morning, shows.

THERE was no shortage of quality baked goodies on offer at a Gourock Golf Club open day held in 2008. Lady golfers went to great lengths to supply club visitors with scrumptious treats.

YOUNG golfers from Moorfoot Primary School made their first visit to Gourock Golf Club's Development Studio. The new £184,000 facility features a simulator designed to give members an opportunity to play on the world's top courses using state-of-the-art virtual reality. Pupils Scott Newman, Jack McKillop, Beth Freel and Emily Nelson joined club pro Derek Watters, along with Graham Hyett and Ross Stewart of Active Schools and club general manager Alan Warwick for this shot, taken outside the facility in 2017.
