ENFORCEMENT officers visited a furniture showroom in Greenock which was still open to advise them that this was not allowed due to tighter national restrictions.
Council officers visited Carrolls Furniture on Thursday to clarify what is and is not currently permitted.
A council spokesman said: "We responded to reports that the showroom was still open despite the new tighter national restrictions which do not permit this.
"Our enforcement officers visited and the owner has been provided with advice about what businesses currently can and cannot do.
"We’re continuing to check and monitor local businesses to ensure they are aware of the new regulations and what they mean.
"While we understand the challenges faced by businesses during these extremely difficult times, the rules are in place in the interests of public safety and to help protect lives and ease the strain on the health service.
"The advice remains that people should stay at home as much as possible to slow the spread of this awful virus."
