INVERCLYDE'S MP is backing a bid to get more financial support for thousands of self-employed people in Inverclyde.
Ronnie Cowan says the UK Government needs to act as concern grows for local constituents struggling with no income during the pandemic.
Mr Cowan said:"The government is failing miserably to meet its responsibilities and deliver a financial package for the three million excluded who have been living without a single penny of support for 10 months now.
“The SNP has repeatedly pressed for support for the self-employed - calling on the UK Government to introduce a package of measures including using the tax and welfare system to provide a Universal Basic Income for everyone, increasing UK statutory sick pay to the EU national average, including self-employed people in the job retention scheme, strengthening welfare protections by increasing child benefit and making the £20 UC increase permanent whilst extending it to legacy benefits.”
