MORTON boss Anton McElhone has moved to bolster his frontline by securing the deadline day signing of Tottenham youngster Kazaiah Sterling on loan til the end of the season.

The 22-year-old Englishman comes to Cappielow held in high regard, having made his debut under previous Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino in the Champions League in 2017.

Sterling has already spent time out on loan this season, making ten appearances for Southend United, scoring once.

The Londoner’s scoring record for Spurs’ U23 side is impressive, having found the back of the net 20 times in 44 appearances as well as chipping in with four assists.

The Spurs youngster has also spent time out on loan at League One Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers in recent seasons, netting once for both clubs respectively across 12 appearances combined.

Sterling can play as a number nine and will provide some much-needed options to add to Kalvin Orsi, Gary Oliver and Cameron Salkeld who have five goals between them this season.

McElhone has been in the market for a striker since the departures of Josh McPake and Ross MacIver, who were recalled by Rangers and Motherwell early.

Sterling will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s league game against Raith Rovers.

McElhone also looks set to end his hunt for another goalkeeper this week as he closes in on a shot stopper to provide cover for current No.1 Aidan McAdams.
