INVERCLYDE'S two coronavirus testing facilities have been praised for their role in helping to drive down infection rates.

The drive through facility at Parklea continues to operate every second day in tandem with the walk-in one at Crawfurdsburn in the east end of Greenock.

Officials say the testing capacity was 'extremely helpful in the initial phase of the current pandemic wave' as it allowed positive cases to be quickly identified, limiting the spread from undiagnosed cases and asymptomatic contacts.

A report to councillors adds: "The availability of testing locally will have contributed to the relatively rapid decline in cases from the initial very high peak in late December."
