A MAN was slashed after he disturbed a gang of intruders outside his Greenock flat last night.
The 21-year-old sustained injuries near his left eye and on his head during the incident within a close on Gael Street at 11.45pm.
Detectives are this morning hunting three men in connection with the serious assault.
All are described as wearing dark clothing and one had an olive green jacket and is 'around 24 years of age'.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, of Greenock CID, said: "The victim stays within a flat in the close and he disturbed three males who were there possibly to steal items.
"He was struck to the face with a sharp implement, possibly a knife, and to his head.
"The three males then made off."
DI Wagstaff added: "The injured man called the emergency services and he was conveyed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he received a number of staples to a head wound.
"We are today urging anyone with information about this incident to contact us as a matter of urgency."
