A PORT Glasgow man charged with placing his partner in a state of fear and alarm and assaulting her has lodged a special defence of self-defence.

Ryan McNeil, 22, is accused of shouting, swearing, repeatedly striking the front door and demanding entry to the property on Angus Road.

McNeil, of Golf Drive, is further charged with seizing and pushing the woman to the floor, sitting astride her and restraining her.

He had pleas of not guilty maintained in his absence from the sheriff court by lawyer Aidan Gallagher.

A trial is due next month.
