A SHOPKEEPER was allegedly threatened by a would-be robber as he closed up late last night.
Police say that the owner of a store on Lynedoch Street was confronted by a man who presented a weapon and demanded money.
A 29-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Young said: "There was an assault with intent to rob at Sana's convenience store in Lynedoch Street, Greenock, at 9.40pm.
"The accused is alleged to have approached the shopkeeper, presented a weapon and demanded money.
"An altercation took place and a male was arrested shortly afterwards."
The man who is in custody is expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court tomorrow.
