CARDWELL Garden Centre bosses have warned that the business will be in danger if they are forced to stay closed again in the spring.

Director Kieran Gallagher spoke as the First Minister today prepares to set out her framework for coming out of lockdown.

Mr Gallagher said: “It is vital for our business we are allowed to open as soon as possible, as March sees the start of our busiest trading period in the year.

“We made significant losses during lockdown last year, as we missed out on the busiest months for us.

"We managed to absorb these losses, but it was an extremely difficult time for us.

"To lose out two years in a row could be catastrophic and very hard to recover from."

He added: “As well as urging the Scottish Government to allow Cardwell and other garden centres to open sooner rather than later, we also need plenty notice of when that opening date might be.

“A lot of planning goes into running a business our size."
