A WEMYSS Bay woman is showing lots of love by knitting matching hearts for hospital patients and their families.

Alison Clark has joined in with a health board campaign to help people in Inverclyde Royal and elsewhere during the pandemic.

The drive aims to give patients a knitted heart while also sending one home to loved ones who are not allowed to visit during Covid-19.

Kind-hearted knitter Alison has already stitched up 50 hearts so far.

Alison, 65, who used to work in the fire brigade control room, said: "I think what the doctors and nurses are doing in hospitals is amazing.

"I wanted to show my support.

"It is such a hard time for patients and their families just now.

"This way the patient gets a heart and their loved ones as well, so they feel connected.

"I love knitting so when I heard about the campaign I wanted to get involved."

Alison, who lives in Linnhe Road, is part of the long running Inverkip Knit and Natter group, which meets in the community hub.

The health board hope that theit 'From the heart' campaign will help patients and families who are going through challenging times.

Dr Margaret McGuire, nursing director, said: “We hope that offering families this will be a comfort to them during a difficult time and we are asking that knitters across NHS GGC support us to be able to offer this small but compassionate token from the heart.”

Knitters are asked to use clean wool and once they are knitted to deliver the hearts in re-sealable plastic bags with the date clearly written on them.

This is so staff can allow 72 hours before the hearts can be used.
