THE news that 120 new staff will be taken on at the Ferguson Marine shipyard has buoyed a Port Glasgow councillor.

The SNP's Jim MacLeod today described the announcement as 'very welcome news'.

He said: "Albeit the jobs are temporary, this is taking the yard's workforce up to 500 employees.

"As well as providing job opportunities this will give a welcome boost for the local economy.

"It is further evidence of investment in the yard and I hope that many of these 120 jobs will go to Inverclyde residents."
