COUNCIL bosses have spent an extra £2 million preventing local families from going hungry during lockdown.
Education chiefs say an additional £1.6m had to be spent on payments for free school meals.
At the same time they have also made £430,000 worth of payments to foodbanks to support the most vulnerable in Inverclyde.
Thie expenditure is part of an agreed Covid-19 action plan.
