A FLOOD alert has been issued for Inverclyde as torrential rain has been forecast for the coming days.

The huge downpour is expected to hit later on tonight and continue into Thursday.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has warned the heavy rain could cause some flooding.

There is also the possibility of localised flooding from the sea in exposed coastal locations on Wednesday night and into Thursday.

The greatest risk is around the times of high tide which in Greenock occurs around 11pm on Wednesday and 11.15am on Thursday.

Typical flooding impacts could include localised flooding of land and roads, isolated cases of flooding affecting individual properties, and localised disruption to travel.

A statement reads: "Typical flooding impacts could include localised flooding of land and roads, isolated cases of flooding affecting individual properties, and localised disruption to travel.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property."
