PORT Glasgow residents living near the waterfront took part in a massive community clean up.

People living in the Kingston Dock development came out in force to join campaigner Jacci Stoyle to pick up rubbish.

At the weekend they filled bags with plastic wrappers, bottles, cans and food containers.

Now they are all set to go back out again with more set to join them.

Delighted Jacci said: "We worked alongside the Clyde, as the rubbish discarded here is in danger of being blown into the river where it becomes a hazard for many sea creatures. We discovered that making our environment safer for wild animals, marine life, pets and people is great fun!

"There was loads of camaraderie – we made a great team."

The Lib Dem candidate raised the alarm about the huge increase in litter lying on the cycle path and in danger of getting blown in to the water.

She added: " The enthusiasm generated on the estate has been tremendous and we are coming out next Saturday morning to continue the good work.

"Caring for our precious environment starts at home. As passers-by watched the litter pickers, they become enthusiastic and promised to join in the following Saturday. Everyone who came felt so encouraged by what we had achieved, they all wanted to come back to do more .

We know our children and pets are safer when they go out and play and we are doing something positive."
