CHURCHGOERS across Inverclyde are being urged to dig deep and top the near-£40,000 they raised during last year's Lenten appeal.

Parishioners in Greenock, Gourock and Port Glasgow donated over £39,900 for SCIAF's WEE BOX appeal in 2020.

Over £20,000 was raised in Greenock, £8,372 in Gourock and £8,453 in Port Glasgow.

With the UK Government committing again to matching donations pound-for-pound, the charity is appealing for more donations this year.

SCIAF director Alistair Dutton said: "We’re incredibly grateful to the people of Inverclyde for supporting us year after year.

"Even during these difficult months you have shown amazing generosity and kindness.

"Your continued support means extremely poor communities can get the help they need to work themselves out poverty and survive the devastating impact of the pandemic."
