A THIEF who stole from The Range store in Greenock whilst on four bail orders for other criminal matters has been warned by a sheriff that 'a calculator' may be required to tot up his potential jail time.
Ross McFarlane, 29 — who decided to help himself to a set of earphones — later three times failed to comply with a special condition of bail to report to Greenock police office on certain days.
His lawyer, David Tod, told the sheriff court: "Mr McFarlane is now drug free for the first time in a long time."
Sheriff Joseph Hughes told McFarlane, of South Street: "I'll give you an opportunity to stay out of further trouble, but if you don't I'll need to bring a calculator with me."
Sentence on McFarlane has been deferred until April 21.
