AN ALLEGED armed robber and a man on offensive weapons charges are among cases down for a jury trials sitting getting under way at Greenock Sheriff Court today.

Accused Andrew Mulholland, 28, is charged with holding up the U-Save convenience store on Belville Street by allegedly presenting a screwdriver at a worker and grabbing £40 in cash.

Mulholland, of Leven Road, is further accused of attempting to rob the New Best Cellar off-licence on East Crawford Street.

Both alleged offences are said to have taken place in August 2019.

Meanwhile, Brian McSorley, 46, is facing trial charged with unlawful possession of a knife and hammer at the Inverclyde Homeless Centre in June 2019.

Mulholland and McSorley have maintained pleas of not guilty through lawyers David Tod and Aidan Gallagher throughout their respective proceedings.
