THE curtain's coming up on a stage show to commemorate the centenary of Morton's most famous achievement.

Gourock playwright David Carswell is bringing back his popular comedy drama 'Mon Eh 'Ton!' to the Beacon Arts Centre in April 2022 to mark the 100th anniversary of the club's Scottish Cup triumph.

The theatre production follows Ton's history since it was founded in 1874 by shares the highs and lows of five fans through the decades.

The production originally made its stage debut in 2017.

Now it is coming back by popular demand.

David told the Tele: "We decided to bring back the play to commemorate this big moment in the club's history.

"Since the play in 2017 I've had people tell me they'd love to see it again and others who missed it desperate to see it on the stage after hearing reviews from others.

"It's really special to have the cast and crew - who are all local - back together with something in the pipeline after a year of no live theatre.

"It's not just for the fans and doesn't just touch on Morton, it delves into the social history of Greenock and is a night of comedy and education with a sing-song in between."

The show will return to the waterfront venue on April 14, 15 and 16 next year, with the cast and crew backed by fans' investment group Morton Club Together, who will benefit from the production.

The original production saw Morton legend and ‘King of Cappielow’ Andy Ritchie star alongside familiar faces on the Inverclyde theatre scene and there was an accompanying Morton exhibition.

Keen 'Ton fan and cast member Chris Gavin said: "I'm so looking forward to doing the show again, as we have a great time from the moment we start reading the scripts until we perform.

"We're all involved in the local drama scene so we can all agree after a year of no performances, this is brilliant news.

"There's a real demand for theatre after such a long time without it, so I hope the community gets on board with us again."

David is keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in getting involved in the show.
