A DECADE-old proposal by a local SNP councillor to build a bridge from Gourock to Dunoon has been revived in time for this year's elections.

Innes Nelson unveiled his idea in 2011 and asked Inverclyde Council to draw up a plan.

Now the SNP has included the idea as one of two policies specific to Inverclyde in their manifesto for the Holyrood elections in May.

The party listed it among its plans for West Scotland as part of a £30m investment in infrastructure.

SNP chiefs say they will explore the potential to 'build more fixed links to remote communities'.

There are also plans to support the Gourock Harbour revamp and vessel renewal programme.
