EAGER gymgoers won't need to waste any time throwing themselves back into post-lockdown fitness - as the doors to Greenock's largest gym will reopen at one minute past midnight.

Staff at the Waterfront Leisure Centre will be standing by to welcome fitness fanatics back the facility at 00:01 next Monday, the day the Scottish Government has given the green light for the reopening of leisure facilities.

The Inverclyde Leisure facility was made safe and socially-distanced before the last lockdown, with measures such as a one way system, booking slots and sanitising equipment before and after use implemented.

Operations manager, Stuart Boyle, told the Tele: "We know how much the people of Inverclyde are looking forward to getting back to the gym.

"That's why we're opening the doors to the Waterfront at one minute past midnight and keeping them open through until 11pm that evening.

"It's a bit of fun and hopefully shows that we are just as excited as our members to get back.

"It's been a long four months, so we're delighted to have been given the go-ahead.

"We can't wait to see everyone back and hope that we'll have keen members raring to go from the moment the doors open."

The gym was operating with limited opening hours before lockdown came in but Stuart is delighted that regular times are returning.

He said: "We will be returning to our normal hours and hope this will remove an obstacle for those who kept their memberships on pause before Christmas.

"It's a really positive step and hopefully a sign that we are heading into better times."

Also looking forward to getting back to their routines are shift leader Stewart Watt and duty manager, Gary Brown, both pictured with Stuart.

Gary said: "It's exciting to be reopening and we can't wait to see familiar faces both on the evening and in the weeks that follow."
