A FORMER Greenock jail inmate who attacked a fellow prisoner has had his sentence deferred for a second time because he failed to turn up at court.

Michael McElhinny, 25, was due to have the matter dealt with on Wednesday but it has been continued until next Friday because of his no-show.

He seized another man by the neck, punched him on the head and kicked him on the body at Gateside on March 15 last year.

The matter was previously postponed due to a lack of a pre-sentencing background report.
