DRIVERS are being warned that the A8 will be closed eastbound for a day between Port Glasgow and the M8 for essential roadworks.

The main road out of Inverclyde will be closed between Woodhall Roundabout and Junction 31 at Bishopton on Sunday May 9 as contractors working on behalf of national digital network business Openreach replace a manhole and cover.

Motorists heading east will have to go up the Clune Brae and via Kilmacolm and Bridge of Weir.

Westbound traffic will not be affected.

An Openreach spokesman said: “We’re sorry for any disruption caused by these essential roadworks, where a one-day closure is the only safe option.

"We’re trying to minimise the impact by working on a Sunday but appreciate this is a busy road.

"We’d advise drivers to plan ahead and leave some extra time for their journey - and thank them for their understanding.”
