RESIDENTS of sheltered housing complexes across Inverclyde are getting the chance, at last, to see things return to normality, as both the pandemic vaccine kicks in, and the virus itself begins to peter out. Although temperatures are still down on last year, our senior citizens are beginning to take to gardens and prepare for the summer ahead. I have visited Riverside Gardens in Gourock recently, to see residents take the sun and enjoy the spring sunshine. The following five pictures are some of my favourites taken at dwelling complex. Fiona McNeil and Scot Mclean of famous local band Really Jiggered dropped into Riverside Gardens to help them celebrate St Andrew's Day back in 2018. The event was a great success and gave the pensioners a chance to enjoy good food and top Scottish entertainment.
SALVATION Army Lieutenant Ian Arthur was kept at arm's length and more when he received a token of thanks from the residents of Riverside Gardens. The pensioners raised a whopping sum of £1,000 for the various agencies who helped them in the early stages of the pandemic.
RESIDENTS got busy making fancy hats in celebration of both St Patrick's Day and Easter back in 2018. The Irish-themed Easter was a big hit with all who joined in and made this fun shot for the Tele camera.
DURING the lockdown, Inverclyde Shed chairperson Bruce Newlands and his team made sure pensioners at Riverside Gardens were kept supplied with quality vegetables grown at Shore Street Gardens Project only a short distance away.
RESIDENTS of Riverside Gardens are no strangers to horticulture themselves. Tele gardening correspondent George Irvine dropped down to see green-fingered stalwart Jim Hunter's impressive display of tub-grown dianthus and he was not disappointed. Jim is always busy making sure there is something worth seeing in the suntrap courtyard of the complex, bringing joy to those who gather there.
