A GROUP of determined school staff are taking steps to ensure they stay fit and well - by forming an exercise group.

Staff at St Ninian's Primary in Gourock started 'Wellbeing Wednesdays' during lockdown to keep the whole school active and motivated during the time of blended learning.

Although staff have now returned to school, they are unable to see each other at breaks due to social distancing guidelines and Covid-19 restrictions.

In a bid to maintain relationships and catch-up with colleagues, they have been walking around the area after school every Wednesdays.

Depute head Siobhan Currie, who launched the walking group, said: "Even though we're all back in the building we don't get to see each other in the same way as we would've before.

"It's nice for us to catch up and really helps us promote that work-life balance that is so important.

"We also have student teachers with us from outwith the area, so this gives us the chance to show them Gourock and get them out into the community."

The invitation is open to all staff and each week they cover different routes in the surrounding area.

Ms McCabe added: "It's great to catch up with colleagues - each week we change who we walk with so we can all get a good chat.

"It's also setting a good example, the kids see us out and about and they love it.

"This helps us maintain positive relationships and it is a way for us to come together whilst we can't be the way we usually would during school hours."
