A SHAKE-up is looming of the grants system used by the council to distribute money to voluntary and sports groups.

Education and communities bosses have launched a review of the 'grants for voluntary organisations' fund, as well as the under-19s sports subsidy and community hall waivers scheme.

In a bid to make them more transparent and highlight the impact the money has on the community, the three streams will be brought together.

Under new proposals drawn up by officials, an individual payment from the new 'Community Grants Fund' would also be capped at a maximum of £10,000.

Applications would be considered under three headings - facilities and core funding, project costs and fee waivers for the hire of Inverclyde Council and Inverclyde Leisure premises.

Members of the education and communities committee will be asked to rubber-stamp the proposal at an upcoming meeting.
