ANOTHER sunny day saw another Greenock Golf Club member achieve the ultimate goal of a hole-in-one.

This time it came at the 205-yard Helter Skelter 10th hole and it was John McCafferty who achieved it.

Welcome to the 'Hole-in-One Club' John.

This is a hole that most people consider it an achievement to get on the green never mind hole it from the tee.

There were a fair number of the 150 members who played below their handicap with all three sections being won with 39 point.

Results - Section 1: 1st, Hugh Lyden 39pts; 2nd, Robin E Terrey 38pts; 3rd, John Burns 37pts BIH.

Section 2: 1st, James Orr 29pts; 2nd, Mark Bowie 38pts BIH; 3rd, Graham Knox 38pts BIH.

Section 3: 1st, Cameron Shaw 39pts; 2nd, Euan McLaughlin 38pts BIH; 3rd Adam Brown 38pts.

Last Saturday players were again blessed with a fair day with only a slight touch of rain for the Provost Trophy qualifier.

As the name suggests this is a trophy put up by the provost many years ago and a charity which Greenock Golf Club are pleased to support.

Yet again there was another hole-in-one - the club's third in eight days!

Congratulations go this time to David Docherty.

With Covid restrictions lifted, David was able to respect the time old tradition of putting up a bottle of whisky. Well done Davy.

Remember not that long ago when a 62 would be the winning score for the Provost qualifier.

This weekend 62 didn't even guarantee qualification, with one team on 62 missing out on a place in the match play.

Leading the qualifiers were: 1st, Kieran Munro and Ryan Lynch 55; 2nd, Alan Rodgers and Jim Duncan 58; 3rd, Stuart Gallacher and Hugh Lyden 59;

4th, Alan Crighton and Ronald McCallum 60 BIH.

There were a total of 196 taking part in the qualifier.
