A FAIFLEY primary school pupil has been named as West Dunbartonshire Leisure’s latest young sports star of the month.

Lacey Morrison, a P7 pupil at Edinbarnet Primary, was nominated by her school for her dedication and determination in her favourite sport throughout the difficult days of the coronavirus lockdowns.

Lacey is a gymnast and a member of the Women’s Artistic Regional Squad for West Dunbartonshire Gymnastics Club.

She commits a lot of time and effort to her gymnastics and has been working extra hard to keep her skill and fitness levels up during the last year in the face of the challenges presented by the pandemic.

Lacey had just mastered the tricky technique of a front somersault off the beam without any support when the first lockdown struck.

But despite the enforced limits on her training regime, Lacey continued to work hard, with her mum sending videos of her working on her conditioning, flexibility and skills to her gymnastics coach nearly every day.

A West Dunbartonshire Leisure spokesperson said: “A big congratulations to Lacey from Active Schools and all at West Dunbartonshire Leisure.

“Keep enjoying your gymnastics and we look forward to hearing more about your achievements in the future.”

Meanwhile, if you want to play your part in shaping the young Clydebank sporting stars of the future, West Dunbartonshire Leisure are looking for volunteers to get children in the area more active.
