GOUROCK Golf Club's 125th anniversary is in full swing after the course hosted an all-members scramble competition.

On April 28 1896 a meeting was held in the Gamble Institute, Shore Street, to ‘consider the proposal to form a golf club in Gourock’.

Over the subsequent 125 years the club expanded from its initial nine holes into 18 and in so doing gradually moved further west in the town.

Through the decades the club have used four different clubhouses, with its present facility in Cowal View having been built in 1964 linked as it was to the Trumpethill Housing development.

Quite appropriately in Gourock Golf Club's 125th year a £250,000 upgrade to its clubhouse facilities has been completed and a number of golf and social events are lined up throughout 2021 to celebrate this important anniversary.

At the centre of this will be a big charity event planned for early July, the full details of which will be announced soon.

To kick the season off the club held a fun all-members scramble with a fantastic total of 240 members taking part.

Each member was greeted by either captain Neil Beaton or vice-captain Norma Ramsay as they stepped onto the first tee and were presented with a 125th logo’d ball and encouraged not to lose it on the first hole.

The scoring over the weekend was very competitive.
