AGE is proving to be much more than just a number for staff at an investment firm's Greenock branch as they take on a charity challenge.

Some of the team at the Yorkshire Building Society in West Blackhall Street are 'running their age' to raise money for Age UK.

Four colleagues - branch manager David Nolan, Nicola Bowie, Myra King and Paul McLuskey - have teamed up to cover 43 miles each for the cause.

The distance of 43 miles was decided on as 43 is the average age of the group.

The staff can cover the distance in any way they choose and the amount raised will be matched by Yorkshire Building Society head office.

Age UK is the society's charity partner of the year and David says the collaboration couldn't be more timely.

He said: "We're so pleased to be taking on this challenge for Age UK.

"It's been an incredibly difficult time for older people and a lot of loneliness has been felt throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

"Our customers are predominantly of the older age group and they're all delighted that we're fundraising for this cause.

"They're all so supportive of it."

David and the team are hopeful that donations will keep coming in right up until the challenge is finished at the end of June.

He added: "We've been running and walking and doing everything we can to cover the miles.

"Some of us blast a lot of miles in one day and some of us are doing it bit by bit.

"We all have a really strong commitment to it and want to do as much as we can to raise awareness of this fantastic charity."
