BABIES are back in class making music and having fun as the world starts to come back together again.

Boogie Bugs, run by Greenock musician and performer Lynette Beaton, is one of the area's most popular parent and children groups.

After a year of disruption it is back in action as lockdown is lifted.

With music, instruments and lots of socially-distanced moves, Boogie Bugs is now bigger than before.

With parents concerned about the impact of the pandemic on youngsters, everyone is keen to make up for lost time.

Entertainer Lynette said: "Nothing beats everyone getting back together.

"The babies and toddlers are so excited to be back here.

"We always have lots of fun at Boogie Bugs.

"Our classes have doubled our numbers.

"They are smaller now, so there is more room.

"We now have classes six days a week.

"It has been hard for parents and toddlers this year and although online classes are great, there is nothing better than getting together in a room."

For many of the new parents coming along to Boogie Bugs, based at Dazzles Dance Studio in Greenock, this is the first chance their children have had to socialise with others.

Julia McIntyre, from Gourock, there with daughter Elsie, who is nearly two, said: "We have come to Boogie Bugs from when Elsie was a baby, right through lockdown online and now we are back.

"It is one of the best classes around.

"It has been really hard this last year and I am just so glad we can start doing things again."

Former school teacher Lynette, who graduated from the Royal Conservatoire, set up Boogie Bugs four years ago following a year travelling in Australia.

When lockdown hit last March she took her sessions online, with families from all over the country tuning in.

At the same time the singer, along with her musician friends, set up an online gig platform to raise over £10,000 to help with the Covid-19 response, performing every Saturday night for people.

The acts sent donations to Inverclyde Royal and helped patients stay connected to their families by providing mobile phones.
