A GREENOCK man battling a serious lung condition has been left with a leaking sewage pipe in his kitchen and flooding in his Broomhill home.

Angry Neil McEwan says he is at the end of his tether about the water damage all over his third floor flat.

The 51-year-old, who has asbestosis, stays in Broomhill Court, which was revamped as part of a flagship £30m neighbourhood regeneration project.

But Neil says his flat has been plagued by problems ever since.

It has been flooded on numerous occasions and there have been problems with his new replacement windows.

His patience with housing bosses has now snapped after a leak from a sewage pipe which runs down the inside of his kitchen cupboard.

Neil, who has lived in Broomhill Court for more than 15 years, said: "I came in and the floor was soaking wet, but the water just kept on coming.

"A flat above flooded and it travelled all the way down to my neighbours downstairs as well.

"But there is a problem with the sewage pipe in the cupboard as well.

"It cracked and needs fixed, so I had bits of waste in there as well.

"I can't believe it."

Neil reported the problem to River Clyde Homes but says their response has been botched.

He said: "A plumber and joiner came first and said they would come back to fix the cracks in the pipes.

"But then a joiner came out - about my kitchen cupboard.

"It wasn't the cupboard that needed fixed, it was the pipe, so he said he couldn't do anything.

"I also have water damage above my windows and I've had to report problems with cracks on the outside of the building.

"I think this is what is causing all of this, but nothing seems to get sorted.

"I have had enough of all these problems."

Neil can no longer have his young grand-daughter coming to stay because of problems in the flat.

But he says he is increasingly worried about the impact of his living conditions upon his own health and wellbeing.

He said: "I have asbestos in my lungs and I am worried about the impact all of this has.

"I am sick of having to get in touch with River Clyde Home about problems."

Broomhill Court was one of three high rises on Ann Street which were completely refurbished under the major regeneration scheme, with an energy-saving district heating system and new windows among the investments made.

But there have been repeated problems at the building.

River Clyde Homes today said sorry to Mr McEwen and pledged to attend to the problems at his flat.

A spokesman for the housing association said: ‘We are aware of the issues at this property and are taking steps to remedy the situation.

"We will contact Mr McEwan and arrange to deal with the problems he is experiencing, for which we apologise."
