FREE wheeling youngsters are showing plenty of pedal power as they enjoy cycling sessions at school.
Youngsters at Gourock Primary have been taking part in bikeability sessions where they gain practical skills and understanding on how to cycle safely on the roads.
Around 30 primary six class pupils are involved and have been out in the Davidson Drive playground each week to take part in the sessions.
After practising until the end of term, they will then sit an exam before going out for on-road activities assisted by staff and road safety officers.
Three pupils enjoying taking part in the sessions are 11-year-old Jessica McGilvary and 10-year-olds Sol Currie and Emma Low.
Jessica told the Tele: "Bikeability is really good fun and we learn lots of different things that will help us when we are out on the roads with our bikes."
Emma added: "We've been practicing each week and it's helping us be safe when we cycle."
Bikeability is government-recognised and provides practical and professional training.
The school's sessions are being led by teachers Laura Falconer and Mhairi Todd.
P6/5 teacher Laura said: "Bikeability is all about teaching the children to be safe on the roads.
"They learn the Highway Code and how to do various manoeuvres such as starting and stopping and taking off.
"We also focus on other road users and ensure the children know how to use their bikes properly and safely.
"They've all been really enjoying it."
