NATURE detectives went on the hunt at the Lunderston Bay and Cornalees beauty spots in a fun bank holiday outing.

Mind Mosaic Child & Family Therapies organised the event in conjunction with Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and were delighted by the turnout and sunshine.

More than 60 youngsters flocked with their families to Lunderston while a further 20 did their exploring at Cornalees.

Vicky Cookson, a trustee with the charity, said: "It was fantastic and we had a great turnout.

"As well as raising some funds it was an opportunity to connect with nature, which is good for people's mental health."

Vicky said the feedback from families was very positive.

She said: "They loved it.

"Children were given a list of things to find on the beach, such as razor clams, limpets, a white pebble, dry seaweed and a piece of plastic.

"Lots of the kids came up to us and were keen to show us what they had collected in their back packs.

"A few people who hadn't booked asked to take part - it certainly created a lot of interest.

"Others took part at Cornalees, which was a woodland environment with a lovely stream."

It is hoped a similar event will be held next year following the success of the scavenger hunt.

So far, £400 has been raised for the charity.

Organisers want to thank Tesco in Port Glasgow and the Co-op in Eldon Street for donating items for the goodie bags, plus Julie McFarland Bell and Ian from Clyde Muirshiel.
