A GOUROCK golfer who has already bagged an astonishing 14 holes in one has now smashed his own course record.

Martyn Paton, 28, has been a member at the Gleddoch Golf Club in Langbank for the last six years.

In September 2020, he posted a four under par 68 - the best round there in six years.

Now, just eight months after claiming the record, he has topped it again with a 67.

The forklift engineer says playing more golf has helped him master the course.

Martyn said: "I used to play a lot of football but I've been focusing on my golf a lot more and putting a lot more time into it.

"I've been playing three or four times a week and it's getting me to where I want to be.

"I just have to beat my own record again now!"

Martyn plays golf with a group of friends and says there's healthy competition between them all - but winning is at the heart of the game for him.

His friend Graham Barr held the course record until last year.

He said: "We all try to beat each other and it's good fun but we do take it seriously.

"I love the competitive side of it.

"I need to win."

Of the 14 holes in one so far in his career Martyn has had four over the last four years.

Martyn hopes to keep developing his golfing skills and says there's no better place to do it than Gleddoch.

He said: "It's a championship course and is just an amazing place to play.

"The views are incredible.

"At the 14th hole, you can see all the way to Shotts.

"I'm hoping to keep progressing my golfing career and see how far I can take it."
