THE sun was shining down on a group of female bowlers as the new season rolled into action.

Players from the Lady Alice ladies' section took to the green to mark the start of the eagerly-awaited 2021 campaign.

The club enjoyed a healthy turnout for the big occasion in what was the first time many of the members have been together since before the pandemic.

After losing out on much of the season last year, members of the Inverkip Road club were delighted to be back in action.

Delivering the first bowl on the day was ladies president, Shirley Paterson, who says a great day was had by all.

Shirley, who has been a member of the club for 15 years, said: "It was a really lovely day and made even nicer by seeing friends who haven't been together in well over a year.

"The pandemic was difficult for us all, being stuck at home when we'd usually be out each week bowling was very difficult.

"The sun was out and everyone had a great day - it's good to be back."

The occasion was an extra special moment for the everyone at the club, after it fought off the threat of closure due to the coronavirus crisis.

The club secured a £10k grant to keep operating.

Lady Alice BC is currently recruiting new members for all sections, including the junior section which meets on Saturday mornings.
