THE Scottish national anthem helped rockers with a strong Inverclyde connection get to number one.

The Ronains' version of Flower of Scotland rocketed to the top of the Top 40 UK Rock Songs iTunes chart.

The four-piece also took the top spot in the hot new releases chart on Amazon and went straight in at number 25 in the overall UK iTunes top 40.

The band beat Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds to the rock chart title.

Drummer Linzi Ronain was born in Greenock and brought up in Port Glasgow.

She said: "It's absolutely amazing.

"We would have been happy to land anywhere in the top 20 so to get to number one is just incredible."

Linzi and her bandmates - Jim, Debi and LP - now hope the track will become an anthem for the Scotland team during the European Championships.

Linzi added: "We're completely overwhelmed by the success of the song and want to thank our fans for their amazing support."
