SIX men have been arrested in Inverclyde following a large police probe into serious and organised crime.

Officers pounced on a number of properties in Greenock and Gourock - as well as Cambuslang - on Tuesday morning, having obtained warrants.

Police Scotland initially said that four men aged 29, 36, 40 and 58 had been charged.

Chief Inspector Paul Cameron, pictured, has now confirmed that two more men, aged 30 and 35, were held and will also appear at the sheriff court.

He said: "These arrests come with very serious charges and they are something we have been working on for a while.

"This is a great result and it will bring those responsible for serious and organised crime in the area to justice."

During the 7am swoop officers also seized more than £3,500 in cash.

Mr Cameron said: "I will not stop my efforts - this is just one example of our ongoing commitment to tackling and dismantling serious crime locally."

Detective Inspector Robert Bowie added: "This operation reinforces our determination to target serious and organised crime in our communities.

"People’s lives can be ruined by this activity and we are determined to change that.

"Serious and organised crime has no place in our society and this operation should reassure the public that we will continue to disrupt this and any other criminal activity which impacts on our lives and our communities."
