ACCLAIMED Greenock artist Alison Watt is set to explore the creative spirit of an 18th century portrait master in her new exhibition.

The significant body of work created by the celebrated Glasgow School of Art graduate will be displayed for the first time in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery next month.

Award-winner Alison, regarded as one of the leading artists of her generation, is taking a step back in time to look at the work of painter Allan Ramsay in 'A Portrait without Likeness'

Alison said: "It is not only exciting, but also a great privilege to show alongside his paintings at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.”

Christopher Baker, National Galleries of Scotland director, said: “This remarkable group of paintings takes Alison’s work in a new direction."
