A SCHOOLGIRL with a big heart who raised thousands of pounds to help the foodbank is backing the Tele's new appeal to restock the charity.

Eleven-year-old Skye McCabe has spent the last four years fundraising to support the Tesco toy appeal, which hands over Christmas presents to the foodbank for distribution to needy families.

Now she is supporting our drive to put food on the table for struggling families, in partnership with the Inverclyde Foodbank.

The Tele has teamed up wit long-standing local family firm Dallas Carpets to give readers the chance to donate food to the charity.

Skye, a pupil at Aileymill Primary, said: "I want to help other children who are not as lucky as me.

"I think it is a great idea to support the foodbank.

"It is sad to think there are children here who don't have enough food."

Kind-hearted Skye, with help from her mum Nicole, sell 'reindeer dust' food and hampers during the festive countdown in aid of the charity.

Last Christmas they donated hundreds of toys after raising more than £1,000.

They also inspired charity champ DJ Stephen Connon to get in on the act, as he helped by donating cash to the toy appeal.

Now they will be playing their part in our collection drive, filling the bag which will be inserted in every copy of the Tele next Wednesday.

Mum Nicole said: "We are so happy to be involved and our family will be filling a bag.

"Skye just loves to help."

On the back of the Covid-19 crisis and the summer holidays the Tele is fronting a campaign to encourage our readers to donate parcels to the foodbank.

The bags will be included in every copy of the Tele on August 4.

We are asking our army of kind readers to fill them up and deliver them to the charity direct or drop them in at the Telegraph office public counter.

Inverclyde Foodbank, 64 West Blackhall Street in Greenock, is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday from 1 to 4pm and our office at 2 Crawfurd Street is open from 9am to 5pm.

Readers can also donate through our online fundraising page, where all the cash pledged will be used to buy supplies for foodbank.
