THE late summer heatwave has brought families flocking to Gourock's outdoor pool this week.

Inverclyde Leisure bosses say the iconic attraction has been busier than ever, with 200 people making a splash in the three hours after opening on Tuesday.

The pool was also busy on Wednesday as Inverclyde basked in the sunshine.

George Munro, facilities manager, said: "We've had visitors from Cumnock, Airdrie and Coatbridge, as well as people from England who are at the caravan park along the road.

"On Tuesday we had 200 people in less in three hours.

"It was great to see that the publicity we've had over the summer is really working."

Little Aidan Mackenzie, three, from Port Glasgow, was at the pool having a splashing time with his mum Clare Gallagher.

Clare, 30, said: "It's such a lovely place and ideal for a local trip when the sun's out like this."

Sophia Byrne, four, was at the pool for the first time with her dad Jamie.

He said: "It's brilliant here and Sophia thinks it's great fun."

Friends Eleanor Muirhead, from Fairlie, and Jessie Wilson, from Kilmacolm, both 70, were also lapping up the rays.

Jessie said: "You can't get a better view anywhere."

Jim McDermid, 85, is a regular visitor from his home in Saltcoats.

He said: "The scene speaks for itself and I love swimming in the warm saltwater."

There's still plenty of time to sample the delights of the pool as it does not close until September 26.
