A GROUP of Inverclyde golfers hope to raise a tee-rrific amount of money as they set off on a charity trek tomorrow.

Members of Whinhill Golf Club are walking from the club in Beith Road in Greenock all thre way to Largs.

Their 12-mile journey will be the 14th consecutive walk organised by the club - and the 11th to raise money for charity.

This year, the golfers are walking to generate funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Money raised last year was donated to Ardgowan Hospice and in previous years, the golfers have supported charities such as the British Heart Foundation.

To date, the kind golfers - supported by their friends and family - have raised around £40,000.

This year's walk has already raised hundreds of pounds.

Club secretary John Lawrence says Whinhill members first organised a sponsored walk to raise money for the club's centenary.

John said: "The first few walks were a great success and we really felt as if we wanted to do something for charity.

"We've carried on the tradition of the walk and we always make sure we donate to charities that mean something to us."

The determined walkers are aiming to cover between three and four miles an hour when they're trekking along the scenic Old Largs Road.

Transport back to Whinhill will be provided after the walkers reach Largs town centre.

John is proud of what the club is doing for a great cause close to the hearts of members.

He added: "I'm sure it will be quite emotional when we finish.

"We're all really looking forward to it and want to raise as much money as we can."
