INVERCLYDE MP Ronnie Cowan has criticised the UK Government for its plan to end the Covid-19 furlough scheme on September 30.
Around 1,500 workers in Inverclyde - five per cent of the workforce - are still on the job-saving scheme.
Mr Cowan said: "The UK Government must ditch its plans, which prematurely withdraw support for jobs and businesses by ending furlough.
"Instead it should be delivering a major fiscal stimulus to boost the recovery and raise people's incomes.
"Inverclyde is increasingly vulnerable from UK Government cuts and the long-term damage of Brexit."
