AN alleged victim of a spate of petrol bomb attacks which rocked Greenock last year has been locked up after assaulting police officers and threatening to have her jailed son kill them.

Rosaleen Sutherland — mother of double murder bid accused Lenny Cole — attacked two PCs after she called for help at her Union Street home which was allegedly hit twice during a spate of bombings.

Sutherland, 50, shouted at the male and female officers: "I'll have you two murdered, and your families.

"Lenny is getting out in two weeks and he'll petrol bomb your houses, and you will be getting slashed."

Prosecutor Raeesa Ahmed said: "The accused stated that she was a psychic and would ensure the officers' children would contract cancer."

Greenock Sheriff Court was told that Sutherland stated to the male officer: "My Lenny will cut the head right off you."

Fiscal depute Ms Ahmed added: "The accused slipped a right handed handcuff and swung her left hand at the officer striking him with the steel cuff to the right side of his face.

"She then violently swung her head towards the female officer in an attempt to strike her with a headbutt, very narrowly missing."

Sutherland committed the offences on September 14.

The court was told that officers found her shouting from an open window.

A man who was with her was telling her to 'calm down' and 'don't hit the police'.

Defence lawyer Aidan Gallagher said: "She has recently been referred for a psychiatric assessment.

"It is believed she may be suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.

"This may be as a result of a number of very unfortunate incidents, not least her home being subjected to what is known as an alleged petrol bombing."

Mr Gallagher added: "Her mental health is currently under assessment."

Sheriff Joseph Hughes remarked that Sutherland's criminal record of a High Court and three sheriff and jury convictions was 'amazing'.

He added that the fact she was on two bail orders at the time of her latest offence against the police was 'all very concerning'.

Solicitor Mr Gallagher said: "She had drank to excess and was clearly intoxicated."

Sheriff Hughes asked: "Who's Lenny?"

Mr Gallagher replied: "He is her son - and he won't be out in two weeks."

Cole, 22, is currently remanded in custody charged with trying to kill two men in separate incidents more than a year apart.

He is charged with the attempted murder of Shaun Charles in Greenock on June 9 in 2018 and a second murder bid in Port Glasgow town centre on August 27 in 2019, where he is said to have acted with another individual in trying to kill Reece Warnock, who is now deceased.

Sheriff Hughes told Sutherland: "I've thought very carefully about this and I don't think this case merits bail."

The sheriff remanded her in custody for the preparation of a background report and an electronic tagging assessment until October 13.
