MORTON Club Together chiefs have issued a rallying cry to fans to come out in force for their first game as a community-owned club.

Saturday's home encounter against Arbroath will be Ton's first match of the new era after the historic takeover was successfully completed on Tuesday.

The fans' investment group have urged supporters to turn out in big numbers at Cappielow and they hope a large crowd can help get the new era under community ownership off to a winning start.

An MCT spokesperson said: “This week was an historic moment for the club, and it is huge credit to all of the volunteers and members who have backed Morton Club Together since day one that we’ve been able to reach this point.

“To go from a standing start in April 2019, to having more than 850 members and taking ownership of the club just two and a half years later is an incredible achievement.

“A massive thank you has to go to everyone who has put in their hard-earned cash or given up their time to make community ownership a reality.

“We would obviously have loved everything to be completed ahead of the start of this season, but with a lot of hard work and effort, it’s great to have reached the point of Morton officially being a community owned football club.

“Saturday’s game now takes on huge significance as the first game we will play at the beginning of this exciting new era for Morton.

“We realise results have been tough in recent weeks, but it would be great to see a big support coming to Cappielow on Saturday to celebrate the historic occasion, and hopefully cheer the team on to a massive three points.

“In recent months, it’s been fantastic to see fans back at Cappielow after being away for so long due to Covid. The club now belongs to the fans, and Saturday will be a great moment to celebrate that together.”
