TWO men and a woman have pleaded guilty to committing offences of public indecency at Greenock's biggest pub.

Charley Malone, James Hainey and Sophie Fitzgerald were caught on CCTV engaging in 'inappropriate acts' in the beer garden of the James Watt on Cathcart Street.

The trio had previously denied the offences and were due to stand trial at the sheriff court.

But they finally admitted their behaviour with prosecutors ready to have the footage played as part of the Crown case.

Fitzgerald, 25, performed or mimicked a sexual act on Malone, 28.

Both pleaded guilty to engaging in an inappropriate act in a public place.

Hainey, 33, of Dumbarton, and Fitzgerald, previously of West Blackhall Street, then removed their lower clothing and Fitzgerald sat on Hainey's lap.

The offences were committed at the Wetherspoons pub on July 18.

Malone, of Mount Pleasant Street, also pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.

He shouted, swore, removed the face mask of a member of the pub's staff, refused to leave the premises when requested to do so and behaved in an aggressive manner.

His pleas of not guilty to allegations of indicating he intended to spit on police, repeatedly kicking a female officer and struggling violently were accepted by the Crown.

Sheriff David Hall deferred sentence on all three until October 12 for background reports and electronic tagging order assessments to be prepared.

A narration of the facts of the case will be given to the court then.

Hainey and Fitzgerald's bail was continued while Malone remains remanded in custody.
