A LARGS teen has raised more than £4,000 for charity in memory of his late friend by smashing the London Marathon.

Kind-hearted Danny Casey, 18, completed the landmark race in under four hours in aid of SAMH, in memory of close friend Kerr Wilson, who tragically passed away two years ago.

The former Largs Academy student travelled to the capital for the 26 mile race around the city last weekend.

Danny said: “The run went really well and I managed to get round in just under four hours, so I am happy with that.

“I had actually set my target at four hours and I crossed the line with about a minute to spare.

“We started in Greenwich and finished just after Buckingham Palace. Seeing all the landmarks was a really good distraction from the pain!

“The crowds that come out for the race are unbelievable, and their support really helps you through."

Danny admits that the final few miles were tough, but says that his cause and family support spurred him on.

He said: “When I crossed the line it felt amazing, but I said to myself I would never do it again.

“I had my mum and my grandparents down supporting me."

Danny says he is over the moon after raising £4,000 for the charity.

He said: “I’m delighted with that amount. My original target was £2,000 and to more than double it means so much to me.

“There were quite a few strangers who donated as well, and it means a lot to know that they want to support the charity.

“It’s a very important cause for me after what happened with Kerr and I’m glad I can make a difference to the work of SAMH.”
