THOSE in Inverclyde who are eligible for cervical screening are being urged to go for a smear test when they're invited.

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde is backing a new Scottish Government campaign which encourages people not to ignore their invite - even if they think everything is fine.

The Get Checked Early campaign provides tips and reassurance about smear test appointments to help people overcome barriers to attending.

Figures show that one in three women in Scotland still don't go for their smear test, and that two people die from cervical cancer in the UK every day.

Maree Todd, minister for Public Health, says a five-minute smear test 'could save your life' and stop cervical cancer before it starts.

She added: "This campaign has been developed to encourage more eligible people to attend and ultimately save more lives.

"Information and advice are available to help make your appointment easier."
