A SHIP which will play a key role in accommodating thousands of Cop26 delegates has berthed in Greenock.

MS Silja Europa, one of the largest cruise-ferries in the world, arrived from Estonia on Thursday afternoon and docked at Great Harbour.

The vessel, which normally plies the crossing between Helsinki and Tallinn, has been hired to play host to people participating in the global climate change summit which opens in Glasgow at the end of the month.

She has been brought in - along with sister vessel MS Romantika, which passed Inverclyde last week en route to King George V dock - to alleviate the pressure on hotels as 25,000 people descend on the city for the major global conference.
