GOZIE Ugwu has urged his Morton team-mates to ignore the hype surrounding their crucial clash with basement side Dunfermline.

Just two points separate Gus MacPherson’s men and the managerless Pars, who are being overseen by Greg Shields and Steven Whittaker after Peter Grant was sacked on Sunday.

Ugwu has stressed the need for calm heads going into the East End Park encounter.

The Ton striker hopes that his side can build on their last-minute draw against Hamilton Accies and increase the gap between the two sides even further.

He told the Tele: “From the outside, people will be saying how big a game it is for the two clubs but for us, it’s a game that we’ve just got to take in our stride.

“It’s our next game and for us at least, the next game is always going to be the biggest one for us and that’s how we’ve got to look at it.

“We can’t allow people to put too much pressure on ourselves because it’s just another game of football really.

“We’ll obviously be looking to go through to Dunfermline to go and get three points and to build on the performance of the last week or so because it has been positive.

“We’re going to go there now knowing that it’s going to be tough and we do know how important this game is going to be.

“We need to put the work in if we want to go and get the three points.

“As a team you can see that the goals will come, we’ve got an attacking threat there that’s beginning to show.

“We’ve just got to stick together because we can see that the second victory of the season it isn't too far away.

“Everyone’s just got to stick together and put in the same kind of performance as we did against Hamilton. We were unlucky last week.

“Hopefully in games like that we can get the three points instead of just the one.”

Ugwu admits that he shares his team-mates' frustrations in front of goal, despite missing the last month through injury.

He called for his fellow strike partners to be patient as he believes the goal rush isn't too far away.

He said: “A few of us have had opportunities against Hamilton.

"We had one cleared off the line that easily could’ve been a goal. Robbie Muirhead hit the crossbar the other week and on any other day that will have been a goal.

“That’s just the way football works. There are times when you just can't hit the back of the net for whatever reason and you’ve just got to keep a level head, getting into the right areas and believing in yourself.

“That’s usually what will happen and as a result, the tide will turn - it’s just a case of being patient for that to happen.

“Hopefully that can start to happen now off the back of the manner of last week’s result."
